Beverly Hill Cobb, age 98, of 1000 Jones Ford Rd., Union, widow of John T. Cobb, passed away, Friday, October 3, 2025 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. She died suddenly after a short illness.
Beverly was born July 1, 1927 in Macon, GA, daughter of the late Robert Alexander and Tommie Lou Payne Hill. She was a graduate of Miller High School, Sullens College in Bristol, VA, and Mercer University, Macon, GA. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was then wife of Lt. Col. John T. Cobb and supported him in the many postings over his 23 year career. After his retirement for the Air Force, they moved to the family property in Union County and established a home for their family.
She was the beloved mother of Richard Scott Cobb of the home and Barbara Cobb Tennant (Mark H.), Portland OR. Her grandchildren, Melissa Tennant Lytle (Peter) and Christopher Paul Tennant (Amy Roesler) reside in Portland. She has two great-grandchildren, William Tyrus Lytle and Owen Rhys Lytle.
Teaching children was very important to her. She taught after college in Macon, GA, and at Union Academy. She always tried to bring out the best in each of her students and is remembered fondly by many.
Horses were her passion. She raised, trained, and showed, American Saddlebred horses. She is remember in the South East show circuit showing her elegant Society's Royal Rebel and The Touch of Midas.
Her favorite indoor hobby was watching sports. She was an avid NCAA Basketball and Major League Baseball fan. Her family found her enthusiasm for the players delightful.
She lived 60 years on her beloved farm filled with wildlife and was known for her love of the outdoors and animals. Over the years her love touched many horses, cows, dogs, and cats—many whom she chose and many who chose her.
