Mrs. Beverly Timmons Jordan, widow of Louis Merriman Jordan, Sr., passed away May 4, 2025, at her home in Union, South Carolina.

Mrs. Jordan was born October 24, 1936, daughter of the late Helen Strahley Timmons and the late Melvin D. Timmons, Sr.  She was a 1954 graduate of Union High School and a 1958 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Limestone College where she served as senior class president.  She also received the coveted General Excellence Award given to a member of the Limestone graduating class.  Mrs. Jordan later earned a Master of Education Degree from the University of South Carolina and an Education Specialist Degree from Winthrop College.  She married in 1958 and moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina, where she taught Secondary English and public speaking in city schools for five years until returning to teach English at Union High School from 1965-1997. She served as head of the English department and co-sponsor of the National Honor Society for many years.  She was a 1991 Hall of Fame member of the Union County Education Association and the 1997 Union High School Teacher of the Year.  She served two terms as president of Delta Kappa Gamma, a society honoring women who have given distinctive service in education.  Mrs. Jordan was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, formerly First Presbyterian Church.

Having enjoyed a life-long appreciation of language and literature, Mrs. Jordan fondly remembered performing the role of Penny in the high school junior play, A Lucky Penny, and serving as editor of the annual, The Gleam.  Her favorite activities were reading and spending time with her family at the Jordans' cabin at Lake Murray.

Respected by administrators, teachers, and students, Mrs. Jordan made lasting impressions on those fortunate to have known her.  With kindness and high expectations, she challenged her students.
