January 13, 2017 Mr. Bobby Ray "Bouncer" Bright, age 79, walked through the Pearly Gates of his Eternal Heavenly Home, Thursday, January 12, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Bright was born in Buffalo, September 4, 1937, a son of the late John Thomas Bright and Birdia Pearl Dobbins Bright. He was retired from the construction industry and was co-owner of Hometown Courier. Mr. Bright was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post #22. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was involved in the G.R.O.W. Program. He loved his family and his greatest joy was spending time with them. He was a most wonderful Papa and was loved dearly by his grandchildren Surviving are his wife Marilyn Whiting Bright of 58 years; two daughters, Crystal B. Lewis and Kim B. Vaughn both of Union; one son, Danny Ray Bright and wife Amy of Jonesville; a brother, Thomas E. Bright and wife Ann of Clyde, NC; four grandchildren, Kacie B. Ingle and husband Shawn, Crystal V. Medlock and husband Allen, Daniel Jacob Bright and Lance Vaughn; three step-grandchildren, Brooke Callahan, Richie Callahan and Shannon Hamby; four great-grandchildren, Addyson Ruth Ingle, Skylyn Vaughn, Jaxon Ingle and Chloe Medlock and five step-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Sara and Roger Wade, Penny and Herbie Smith and Donna and David Fletcher. Mr. Bright was also survived by a number of nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Bobby Joe Gibbs and his wife Eveline and special friends, Doris and Jack Vaughn. He was predeceased by two sons-in-law, Jackie Vaughn and David E. Lewis, a granddaughter, Leslie Marie Vaughn; five sisters, Annie Mae B. Cagle, Ruth B. Millwood, Alma B. Gibbs, Evelyn B. McLane and Louise B. Moss and two brothers, Fred T. Bright and Vernon H. Bright and his lifelong friend Billy Ray Holt. Funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Tommy Vaughan, Rev. Jack Eason and Pastor Shawn Ingle. Burial with Military Honors will be held at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be James Bright, Tony Rector, Phillip Fisher, Paul Greer, II, Kevin Smith, Cyle Coker, Brandon Allison and Danny Ivone. The following are asked to form the honorary escort, Rev. Tommy McManus and wife Rachel, Jackie Allison, Sam, Kakie and Josie White, Dr. Jeffrey Craft, Toney Horne, Karen Greer, Donna Greer, Sharon Plemmonds, Tiffany Ivone, Becky D. Alverson, Roy Turner, Kathi Jo Gist and Tim Bright. Visitation will be held from Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church prior to the services. Memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 1261 S. Duncan ByPass, Union, SC 29379 or to Tabernacle Baptist Church Debt Retirement Fund, 914 S. Pinckney St., Union, SC 29379. The family will be at the home, 420 Pineneedle Rd., Union.
