December 12, 2016 Mr. Bobby Gene Stewart, age 87, of 119 Brown's Creek Church Rd., Union, SC, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at his home. Mr. Stewart was born in the Sedalia community of Union Co., September 16, 1929, a son of the late Willie David Stewart and Mary Bailey Stewart. He was a graduate of Cross Keys High School and was retired from Tire and Auto of Union. Mr. Stewart had formerly worked for Goodyear and Carolina Tire. He was a member of Brown's Creek Baptist Church and was a 50 year Mason. He enjoyed playing guitar and performed often at the Buffalo Opry House and the Horseshoe. Mr. Stewart was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Shoaf and husband Tommy of Lexington, NC and Jean Young and husband Terry of Union, SC; three grandchildren; Leslie Sykes and husband David of Gilbert, SC, Stewart Young and wife Chloe of Saluda, SC and Thomas Shoaf of Lexington, NC; four great-grandchildren; a very special friend Faye Hall of Union, SC and her family, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Stewart was predeceased by one sister, Elizabeth Stewart Hunter and three brothers, Douglas Stewart, Everette Stewart and George Harry Stewart. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Brown's Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. John Lee. Burial will be held Padgett's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ray Moss, Danny Groves, Mike Benson, Don Stewart, Dennis Crisp, Danny Crocker, Larry Yarborough and Carl Carter. Musicians of the Buffalo Opry House and the Horseshoe are asked to form the honorary escort. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Tuesday at the church prior to the services. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Blue Ridge Hospice and to Hope Millwood for the care given the Mr. Stewart during his illness. Memorials may be made to Brown's Creek Baptist Church, 118 Brown's Creek Church Rd., Union, SC 29379. The family will be at the home of his daughter, Jean and Terry Young, 126 Clarendon Place, Union.
