Boyd E. Mcabee

January 16, 2018 Mr. Boyd E. McAbee, age 80, of 2252 Lockhart Highway, widower of Teenie McAbee passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at his home. Mr. McAbee was born in Union, SC on April 22, 1937 a son of the late Griffith McAbee and Ella Mae Harris McAbee. He retired from John Cheeseman Trucking and had previously driven for Milliken & Company. Mr. McAbee was a Veteran of the United States Air Force having served in the Korean War. Following active duty, he was a member of the United States Air Force Reserves until 1961. He was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church. Mr. McAbee was a Shriner and Mason. He was also a member of the City of Union Fire Department and earned the Firefighter of the Year for the State of South Carolina in 1969 for his heroism. Mr. McAbee retired as a State Constable. Surviving are two sons, Michael "Moose" McAbee and wife Beth of Mt. Pleasant and Billy Scott McAbee of Union; two granddaughters, Taylor S. Picha and husband Austin of Mt. Pleasant and Lucy Busbin of Mt. Pleasant; one sister Jackie Greene of Union; one brother, J.W. McAbee of Union; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Hazel McAbee, Margaret Gaines, and Katherine Wright and one brother, Raymond McAbee. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, January 19, 2018 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Chris Gulledge. Burial with Military Rites and Masonic Rites will be held at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Keith Baker, Coleman Ferrell, Will Horlacher, Jeff Littlejohn, Rod McAbee, and Johnny Rutledge. Honorary pallbearers will be Officers and Staff of the Union County Sheriff's Office, the Union Public Safety Department and Fire Department along with Tommy Knox, William Jolly, and Howard Wells. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Friday prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be made to Mon Aetna Baptist Church, 1431 Lockhart Highway, Union, SC 29379.
