Rev. Boyd Henry Williams, age 95, of 228 Walker Heights, Union, widower of Louise Cooper Williams passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at Union Medical Center. Rev. Williams was born January 27, 1922 in Clinton, SC a son of the late John Baxter Williams and Inez Murphy Williams. Rev. Williams served and retired as Pastor of Sumner Memorial Baptist Church for 33 years. He was a graduate of Union High School and was a Supervisor with United Merchant until it closed. Rev. Williams was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II and received a Purple Heart with cluster for his service. He was first married to the late Gertrude Harrison Grant. Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Baker and husband Ralph of Union; one son, Charles Williams of Union; two sisters, Frances Green of Union and Ruby Eubanks of Spartanburg; one brother, Larry Williams and wife Gwen of Buffalo; three daughters-in-law, Brenda C. Williams and Dianne Williams both of Buffalo and Fran Peigler of Charlotte, NC; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sons, Wayne Williams, Jimmy Williams, and Earl Peigler; one daughter, Judy Dorsey; four sisters, Christine McNease, Ruth McNease, Shirley Pearson, and Mary Nell Black; and one brother, Donald Williams. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dwayne Reuter, Rev. Wayne Cook, and Paul Burgess. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Rev. Williams grandsons, John Williams, Robert Charles Williams, Robert Wayne Williams, Jon Peigler, Ron Peigler, and Brad West. The following are asked to form the honorary escort, Roger Sumner, Wayne Smith, Rev. Joe Ballard, Nathan Sumner, Edward Sealy, Ronnie McNease, Mike McNease, Terry McNease, Dennis Teague, Jerry Williams, Marion Eubanks, and Stanley Eubanks. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hillside Baptist Church, 102 Ingle Ave. Union, SC 29379.
