Braddie Riddle Rice

Mrs. Braddie Riddle Rice, age 93, formerly of Buffalo, widow of William C. Rice, Jr., passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Rice was born in Spartanburg Co, May 6, 1923, a daughter of the late John Faber Riddle and Millie Smith Riddle. She returned to Buffalo at the age of 4 after the death of her father. Mrs. Rice graduated from Union High School and spent much of her adult life employed with Buffalo Mills. After its closing, she worked in the cafeteria of Foster Park School until her retirement. Mrs. Rice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a lifelong member of Buffalo Baptist Church where she served in the nursery and beginner's department for many years. She loved her church and worked faithfully for many years teaching, visiting, cooking and learning. Mrs. Rice was the last surviving member of her immediate family which included three sisters, Margaret Gowan, Francis Kingsmore and Ruby Gregory and one brother, Faber Riddle. Surviving are a daughter, Harriet R. Goforth and husband Will of White Stone; a son, Stanley Rice and wife Patti of Buffalo; two grandchildren, Molly Mierke and husband Peter of Richmond Hill, GA and Andrew Goforth of White Stone; two great-grandsons, Avery and Isaac Mierke of Richmond Hill, GA. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family which includes Kevin Shropshire and wife Kelly and family, Lee Shropshire and wife Lacy of Union and Ron Lybrand and wife Melinda of Union. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 17, 2016 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Lynn Ford. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the at the church from 12:45 until 1:45 PM Friday prior to the services. Active pallbearers will be David Riddle, Harold Gregory, Andrew Goforth, Lee Shropshire, John Riddle, Doug Johnson and Jamie Smith. The following caregivers are asked to sit in a group, Joey Smith, Earlene Triplett, and Darlene Oglesby who lovingly helped care for Mrs. Rice during her recent illness. The family also wishes to extend a special Thank You to the staff and nurses of Medi Home Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Rice. Memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church, P.O. Box 428, Buffalo, SC 29379 or to Medi Home Hospice, 755 Spartan Blvd., Spartanburg, SC 29301. The family will be at their respective homes.
