Carl Smith

Mr. Carl Lewis Smith, age 79, husband of Thelma Crocker Smith of 820 Meansville Rd., Union, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Union Medical Center. Mr. Smith was born in Union, SC June 1, 1936, a son of the late Claude P. Smith and Annie Belle Palmer Smith. He had worked for Milliken & Company for thirty-two years and retired from Torrington. Mr. Smith was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church. For many years, he was a very active member of the Black Mountain Boys Bluegrass Band and played all over North and South Carolina. Mr. Smith was a very loving person who enjoyed making people laugh and visiting people in nursing homes. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sisters: Linda S. Thomas and husband Preston and Pearl S. Inman both of Union; three brothers: Kenneth Smith, Monroe Smith and wife Nancy and Gilbert E. Smith, Sr., all of Union; a special niece, Crissy Thomas of Greenville and numerous other nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was predeceased by sisters, Della Moss and Hazel S. Gregory and brothers, L.J. Smith, Harold E. Smith and William Charles Smith. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Mark Truitt, Rev. Scott Cobb and Rev. Bill Wheeler. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Joey Gregory, Randy Gregory, Paul Gregory, Carl Inman, Kenny Smith, Paul Crocker, Douglas Crocker and Donald Ray Smith. The following are asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers: Mitch Henderson, Bill Fowler, Fred Lunsford, Scottie Burris, Michael Gregory, Dr. Gerald Fielder, Trey Newton, Glenn Taylor and nurses and staff of Blue Ridge Hospice. Visitation will be held 1:00-2:45 PM Tuesday in the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Fairforest Baptist Church, 1917 Jonesville Hwy, Union, SC 29379. The family will be at the home of his sister, Linda and Preston Thomas, 103 Sunset Drive, Union.
