Carol Owenby Gault

Ms. Carol Rae Owenby Gault, age 72, widow of Lewis Gault, entered the presences of her Lord and Savior at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home on July 6, 2026 after a 3 year courageous battle with breast cancer.

Ms. Gault was born in Union, April 22, 1954, the youngest daughter of the late Johnnie Owenby and Mable Vanderford Owenby. Carol was a member of the 1972 graduating class of Union High School and was a retired Hair Stylist. She was formerly employed with Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing, US Post Office and the SC Department of Corrections. Carol was a master gardener and enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and senior groups.

She is survived by her daughter, April Nichols and husband Bobby of Spartanburg, and her two grandchildren, Bobby Ray Nichols, III and Allison Nichols of Spartanburg. She is also survived by a brother John Owenby of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Wanda Lockaby of Union, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family and dear friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Karen Owenby Spencer and a brother, Mevelain Roger Owenby.

A celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Mark Truitt and Rev. Brandon Heatherly. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday at the church prior to the services.

Active pallbearers will be Bobby Ray Nichols, III, Chris Queen, Chad Henderson, Sammy Webber, Marvin Montgomery and Michael Brown.

The family request the following to serve as the honorary escort: Sidney Lawson, Carol and Billy Beheler, Cheryl Arrowood, Melinda Sorrow, Terrie Malone, Beth Walker, Jody Hamrick, Teresa Palmer, Cindy Ivey, Julie Comer, Teresa O’Shields and Anita Montgomery.

The family would like to say a special Thank You to the many friends and family members for their love and support shown to Ms. Gault during her illness.
