Charles O. "Charlie" Vaughan

Mr. Charles O. "Charlie" Vaughan, age 88, husband of Shirley Wright Vaughan of 212 Hillcrest Dr., Union, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at his home, after several years of declining health.

Mr. Vaughan was born October 27, 1933, in Union, a son of the late W. D. and Edna Scales Vaughan.  He was a 1951 graduate of Union High School and retired as Deputy State Fire Marshall.  Mr. Vaughan had previously worked at Carlisle Finishing Plant.  He had also worked as Head Floral Designer of Shirley's Flower Shop.  After his retirement he worked for many years at Holcombe Funeral Home.  Mr. Vaughan was a volunteer fireman for 58 years and was inducted into the SC Firefighters Hall of Fame.  He was a Veteran of the South Carolina National Guard.  Mr. Vaughan attended Duncan Acres United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 68 years are two daughters, Cindy Hulon of Union and Kitty Vaughan of Union; two special "sons" Joel Stepp and Matthew Stepp; a special grand-dog, Bella; a close family friend and caregiver Jennifer Barber; and several nieces.  He was predeceased by three brothers, Dan Vaughan, Harold Vaughan and Wallace Vaughan.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Merritt Wentz.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Lancaster, Skee Nichols, Tommy Genoble, Franklin Pridemore, Larry Rouse, Jim Stepp, Eddie Wayne Davis, Tonya Brewington, John Ferguson, Kevin Montgomery, and Ashley Mitros.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the Nurses and Staff of Crescent Hospice, especially Tonya Brewington and John Ferguson for their love and care of Mr. Vaughan during his illness.
