Mr. Chester Marvin (“Pop”) Harvey, loving husband of the late Gwendolyn Gowan Harvey for 75 years, went to be with his Lord on March 17, at the age of 97. Mr. Harvey was born on November 23, 1928 to the late Hilliard M. Harvey and the late Jeanette Goforth Harvey Williams.
He retired from the Soil Conservation Service in Spartanburg after 28 years of service. He also served in the naval reserve and then went on to work alongside his son, Alan, at Harvey’s Automotive, where they spent many cherished years working on cars together for the Pauline community and beyond. He was also a mason for 76 years.
Marvin greatly enjoyed serving in the Training Union with his wife at West Springs Baptist Church, where he was a member for 74 years.
Surviving are two sons William Doyle Harvey (Sherri) of Pauline, Alan Keith Harvey (Cindi) of Pauline, and a daughter in law Brenda M. Harvey of Pauline, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, along with many nieces and nephews. Pop will be deeply missed, but we all find solace in knowing that he has been reunited with the love of his life.
Mr. Harvey was predeceased by a son Randall Marvin Harvey, a brother Hilliard M. Harvey, Jr., and a sister Margaret Harvey Hayes.
A celebration of his life will be held at West Springs Baptist Church on Friday, March 20 at 2:00pm conducted by Rev. Mike Royal. The family will receive friends from
12:30-1:45 in the church sanctuary. Burial service will follow in the church cemetery with special music by Rev. Norman Band. Pallbearers will be Brad Harvey, Doyle Harvey, Dylan Reich, Jesse Harvey, Landon Reich, and Willie Harvey.
The following are asked to be seated behind the pallbearers: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lancaster, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Kendrick, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Gault, and with Mrs. Linda Mayes. In addition, the family would like the Senior Adult Men’s Sunday School Class and Senior Adult Life Group to sit in this reserved area as well.
The family is at the home, 920 Mount Lebanon Road, Pauline. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to West Springs Baptist Church cemetery fund.
