Claude Thomas "Tommy" Hart, Jr.

Mr. Claude Thomas “Tommy” Hart, Jr., age 59, of Union, passed away June 12, 2026 at Spartanburg Medical Center surrounded by his family following an extended illness.

Born in Union, November 15, 1966, Tommy was a son of Claude Thomas “C.T.” Hart, Sr. and Susan Puckett Hart of Union. He was a 1985 graduate of Union High School and a graduate of Spartanburg Technical College.

Tommy built a career serving his community and retired as a law enforcement officer and firefighter with the City of Union Public Safety Department. He was a volunteer and served as a board member for the Monarch Fire Department. Tommy was known for his big heart, sense of humor, and willingness to help others. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing (although not proficient), working on small motors and traveling. He was a friend to all, always putting others first and was a Godly man whose actions spoke volumes to the content of his heart.

In addition to his parents, Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Wendy B. Childers of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Jordan Thomas Hart and Joann of Union; daughters, Allison Marie Hart of Gaffney, Sara Elizabeth Hart and Emma Gail Hart of the home; a son, Luke Childers of Union. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bryleigh Hart, Chandler Hart, Lizzie Hart, and Mason Hart; his brother, David Michael Hart of Union; and his sister and brother-in-law, Alicia Hart Palmer and Jesse Palmer of Gaffney.

Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Justin Hart and wife Brittaney, Nick Hart and wife Rebecca, Cally Palmer, and Gabe Palmer; his uncle, Wade Lee Hart of Union; his aunt and uncle, Susie Hart Berry and husband Gene of Union; his aunt and uncle, Harold and Patti LeMaster of Greenville; and special cousins, Michelle Betenbaugh of Union and Buffy McKeown of Gaffney. Tommy was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Nanzetta and Corine Vinson Hart and his maternal grandparents, Robert and Barbara Ford Puckett.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 14, 2026 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 15, 2026 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial with Honors provided by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Scott Hood, Jerome Beatty, Jamison Taylor, Dell Mitchell, Larry Robinson all of the City of Union Public Safety Department, and Scott Coffer of the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Monarch Fire Department, 1508 Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC 29379.

The family will be at the home of his parents, C.T. and Susan Hart, 2713 Lockhart Hwy., Union.
