Constance B. Amick

Constance B. Amick (Connie) died in Saline, Michigan on April 2nd after a long illness. Born in 1935 in Framingham, Massachusetts to Evelyn Boyd and Ralph Butler, Connie grew up in East Walpole and Ashburnham, Massachusetts. She had fond memories of Cushing Academy, a co-ed boarding school, where she attended until the family moved to Erie, Pennsylvania in her sophomore year. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Connie went to Tacoma, Washington, where she taught first grade. Deciding to tour Europe by bicycle, she liked France enough to stay on and teach a year for the Department of Defense. Returning to Ann Arbor, Michigan, she accepted a job teaching in the public schools - until she met and married Robert Amick. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2012. To those who knew her, Connie was a ray of sunshine, and a "classy lady", as Bob said. Connie's concern about the well-being of others and her deep Christian faith led her to always put others before herself. The list of people and organizations she helped included the Girl Scouts of America, University of Michigan Martha Cook residence, Dixboro United Methodist Church, Alva Gordon Sink Alumnae Group, Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley, United Methodist Volunteers in Mission, and Chelsea Retirement Community (CRC). Her dedication to the residents of CRC culminated in her service there as director. While there, she was instrumental in establishing the Dancey House Apartments and the Towsley Memory Care Unit, a very highly ranked center. Connie is survived by her husband Bob and four children: Jack Amick (Susan); Steve Amick (Sharyl Burau); Gwen Beavans (Clark); and Henry Amick. She also leaves five grandchildren: David and Joseph Beavans, and Evelyn, Samuel, and Huck Amick, as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of devoted friends. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Bob Butler. A celebration of Connie's life will be held at Dixboro United Methodist Church on Monday April 7 at 1:30 PM, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Martha Cook Building Fund #302061, Chelsea Retirement Community Benevolent Care Fund, or the Michigan Alzheimer's Disease Center.
