March 27, 2016 Mr. David Harold "Bud" Cookson, age 81, husband of Carol Lawson Cookson, of 529 Lakeview Heights., Union, went to be with the Lord, Easter Sunday morning, March 27, 2016 at his home. Mr. Cookson was born in Lockhart, SC., December 26, 1934, a son of the late Frank Cookson and Hazel Davis Cookson. He was an active member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and many other capacities. Mr. Cookson worked for Milliken and Company for a total of 52 years, starting with the Lockhart Plant until it closed, then transferred to Monarch Plant. Mr. Cookson was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving in addition to his wife of 57 years are a daughter, Reneé C. Nicholson and husband Mark and a granddaughter Heather Reneé Nicholson all of Union. He was predeceased by 7 sisters, Ruth Deal, Hazel Fowler, Faye Miller, Irene Rash, Betty Tice, Lavada Gaston and Gayle Turner; 2 brothers, Talmadge Deal and James Deal. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Chris Gulledge, Rev. Benny Green and Chaplain Richard Brown. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Doug Johnson, Tommy Calhoun, James Lawson, Marshall Bobo, Bruce Miller, Denver Candler, Bob Wilkins and Brian Fowler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Freddie Shirley Sunday School Class, Medi Home Hospice, Dr. Keith, Stephanie Edwards, Brock Dillard, Leroy Worthy and Jeff Littlejohn. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, 1431 Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC 29379 or Miracle League of Union County, P.O. Box 425, Union, SC 29379. The family is at the home, 529 Lakeview Heights, Union, SC 29379.
