David Russell Varner, Sr.

Mr. David Russell Varner, age 74, of 337 Riley Road, Buffalo, widower of Sheila Moore Varner, passed away, Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood, SC.

Mr. Varner was born in Union County on August 9, 1949, the son of Paul Ray Varner, Sr., and Mary Catherine Manley Varner. He was a 1967 graduate of Union High School and went on to attend the University of South Carolina at Union where he studied business.  Mr. Varner retired from Timken. He is a Veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Varner was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Amanda Moss and husband R.L. of Union; a son, David Varner, Jr. of Jonesville; a sister, Barbara Ramsey and husband Steve of Buffalo; two brothers, Bob Varner and wife Cathy of Buffalo and Paul Ray Varner, Jr. and wife Jerri of Buffalo; two grandchildren, Lee Moss and wife Gina and Caroline Ayers and husband Brett; two great-grandchildren, Luke Moss and Aubrey Moss; a sister-in-law, Marlene Varner; a brother-in-law, Freddie Moore and a number of nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Varner.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at New Hope Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Larry Goins and Rev. Johnny Burgess. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Paul Ray Varner, III, Tyler Davis, Nick Davis, Carter Davis, Lee Moss, Brett Ayers, Dee Anthony and DJ Anthony.  Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Turner, Ben Wages, and Clyde Seymore.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the Church.

The family will be at the home, 337 Riley Rd., Buffalo, SC 29321.
