Mr. DC Smith, Sr., age 75, husband of Connie Cooper Smith, died February 18, 2022, surrounded by his family.
DC was born in Union County on December 6, 1946, to the late Eugene and Nellie McDaniel Smith. He was a 1966 graduate of Union High School, and he served for six years in the National Guard. He retired from Timken Company Tyger River Plant after 42 years. After he retired, he worked for a while part-time as a courier for Arthur State Bank. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Union. He loved hunting, fishing and camping, Clemson Tiger football, and spending time with his family who he called his "ten ring" and amongst whom he was known as "Mr. Nice Guy."
DC is survived, in addition to his wife of 52 years, by his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Mark Bentley of Pauline, his son and daughter-in-law, David and Crystal Smith of Jonesville, three grandsons, Trey Smith and his girlfriend Amelia Parks of Raleigh, NC, Dylan Smith of Jonesville, and Drew Bentley of Pauline, and a granddaughter, Samantha Hindman of Peyton, CO; and his two beloved granddogs, July and Allie; three sisters, Shirley Farr, Brenda Bogan and her husband Wayne, and Sandra West and her husband Gary; a brother, Eddie Smith and his wife Susan, all of Union; a number of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Zeb and Virgie Inman Smith, who raised him, and an uncle, Harvey Smith, who was like a brother to him.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Care and especially Kaci Bright, his faithful nurse. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Mr. Smith's name to be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303 and Trinity Baptist Church, 309 Barnado Road, Union, SC 29379.
Services will be held at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home chapel in Union, SC at 2:00 PM Monday, February 21, 2022, officiated by Reverend Neil Keisler. Visitation will immediately follow the service. The following are asked to assemble at the funeral home to form the Honorary escort, Ernie West, Dean Gregory, Patrick Floyd, Kannon Small, Kaleb Small, and Mason Small.
The family is at the home of his daughter and son-in-law at 150 Fincher Road, Pauline, SC.
