June 25, 2015 Mr. Dennis H. Sherbert, age 71, husband of Johnnie Colson Sherbert of 153 Justice Rd., Buffalo, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at his home. Mr. Sherbert was born in Union, SC December 17, 1943, a son of the late Dansel Sherbert and Gertrude Lawson Sherbert. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from H.T. Hackney Wholesale Grocery. Mr. Sherbert was employed with the S.C. Department of Corrections, Tyger River Facility. He was an active member of Putman Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-one years are three daughters: Kelly S. Norton and husband Joey of Monticello, Arkansas, Kim S. Lawson and husband Joey of Pauline and Tracy S. Richardson and husband Johnny of El Dorado, Arkansas; a son, Ashley Sherbert of Putman; a sister, Ruby Freeman of Buffalo; ten grandchildren: Brett and Hedi Norton, Travis, Tyler and Joseph Lawson, Ryan and Jordan Richardson, Scarlet, Hailey and Johnathan Sherbert and five great-grandchildren: Ashton, Hunter, MaKayla, Khloe and Emma Kate. Mr. Sherbert was predeceased by a brother, Glenn Sherbert. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Rick Henderson, Rev. Donald Tillman, Rev. Melvin Shelton and Rev. Steven Ragan. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The following are asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers: Members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, Jim Barrett, Gerald Graham, Bill Kelly, Harold Gregory, Jackie Parks, Jeff Lawson, Ronnie Lawson, Dale Robinson, Tyler Adams and Colby Hawkins. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or to Putman Baptist Church 3692 Buffalo West Springs Hwy, Buffalo, SC 29321.
