Mr. Dewey D. Adams, age 80, husband of Frances Jenkins Adams of 134 Clairmont Rd., Union, passed away early Friday morning, October 17, 2014. Mr. Adams was born in Newberry Co., December 9, 1933, a son of the late Clarence Freddie Adams and Mary Hawkins Adams. He was a 1952 graduate of Prosperity High School and received a bachelors degree from Newberry College. Mr. Adams retired after 40 years in management with Milliken and Company. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Clyburn-Whitener Sunday School class and had served on various committees of the church including the Pastor-Parrish Relations Committee. Mr. Adams was a member of the Union Lions Club, having served as secretary and treasurer for over 40 years. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow and a Franklin Mason Fellow of Lions International. Mr. Adams was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving in addition to his wife of over 57 years are two daughters, Susan Wingo and husband Mickey of Ft. Mill and Jane Howle and husband David of Wake Forest, NC; a granddaughter, Abby Howle of Wake Forest, NC and a grandson, Tyler Howle of Raleigh, NC. Mr. Adams was predeceased by two sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. David Bauknight. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Members of the Clyburn-Whitener Sunday School Class and the Union Lions Club are asked to serve as the honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 201 S. Church St., Union, SC 29379 or to Boys Farm, P.O. Box 713, Newberry, SC 29108. The family will be at the home, 134 Clairmont Rd., Union.
