Mr. DeWitt Frank Garner, age 88 of 146 Oakland Rd., widower of Edith Vivian Oliver Garner, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Garner was born in Union, SC on July 30, 1929 a son of the late DeWitt Garner and Annie Fincher Garner. He was a 1948 graduate of Union High School and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 41 years. Mr. Garner was an active member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, a member of the choir, and a Sunday School Teacher. He was an original organizer of Bonham Fire Department where he served on the Board of Directors for over 35 years and had served as Chairman. Mr. Garner was an avid farmer and enjoyed sharing his harvest with his family and friends. He was a member of Gideon's International. Surviving are two sons, Philip Garner and wife Lorraine and Van Garner and wife Tammy all of Union; one sister Zalie Hobson of Waynesville, NC; three granddaughters, Celeste Ivey, Jessica Parkins, and Tiffany Littlejohn and husband Lee; one great-granddaughter, Abigayle Parkins; a special aunt Frances Fincher of Atlanta, GA; special friends that he considered family, Minnie Jones, Sara Jane Fowler, Dianne Wilkins, and all of the employees of Arthur State Bank and the Courthouse that he visited weekly. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Alan West, Rev. Mark Truitt, and Rev. Shannon Faulkner. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery conducted with Rev. Mark Foster. Active pallbearers will be Derrill Eaves, Scott Austin, Jeff Littlejohn, Billy West, Scotty Willard, Allen Black, David Barber, and Jimmy Vaughan. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Tollison, Wayne Garner, Glenn Thompson, Broadus Roark, and past and present members of the Bonham Fire Department and Board of Directors. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Gideon's International, P.O.
