D.L. Brown

April 2, 1924 — August 15, 2015

D L Brown, husband of the late Mary Elizabeth Jeter Brown, peacefully went to be with his Lord on August 15, 2015. Mr. Brown was born on April 2, 1924 in Jonesville, SC. He was the son of the late James Ferdie Brown and Pearl Comer Brown. He is predeceased by his brothers James Brown and LeFoix Brown, and sisters Avernelle Goins and Doris Fowler. D L Brown graduated from Union High School and attended Kilgore Junior College, the University of Chicago, the University of Texas and the University of Georgia. He served as a navigator in the US Navy for 4 years. Mr Brown faithfully and humbly served his Lord at Trinity Methodist Church, Saint Paul Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and Cane Creek Methodist Church (Santuc). He served in various roles including Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, Chairman of the Deacons, Elder and Lay preacher. He worked for many years as salesman for Burroughs Corporation. Upon retirement, he worked in various capacities, including Executive Vice President, for Union Federal Savings and Loans. D L Brown leaves his unsurpassed spiritual legacy to his 2 surviving children, Suzanne Jeter Brown Merritt of Spartanburg SC and David Leslie Brown (Bunny) of Durham NC. Mr Brown adored and took pride in the accomplishments of 4 grandchildren John Raymond Flynn III (Lindsay) of Atlanta GA, Mary Suzanne Flynn Olsen (Bruce) of Belleville, IL, Daniel Levin Brown (Sasha) of Boston MA and David Lucas Brown of Chapel Hill NC. Mr Brown also delighted in his 2 great children, Gunter Van Olsen and Atticus Olsen. Graveside services will be held at Jeter Cemetery in Santuc, SC on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. Visitation at the Jeter Chapel will follow the service. Pallbearers will be Wilbur Smith III, Thomas Gelwick, John Flynn III, Levin Brown, Lucas Brown and Carter Latham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bible Broadcasting Network, P.O. Box 7300, Charlotte, NC or Columbia Bible College, Columbia SC.
