Doris G. Fowler

d. August 20, 2017

August 20,2017 Mrs. Doris Gregory Fowler, daughter of the late Robert B. Gregory, Sr. and Mary Addis Gregory was lovingly known as "Granny Doris" by all who knew her. Surrounded by her family, she left this earthly life for her heavenly home on August 19, 2017. She was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord, her parents and other loved ones who had gone before her including her husband of nearly 53 years, Theron W. Fowler, a WWII Navy Veteran; her precious infant grandson, David Christopher Hindman, her beloved son-in-law, Roy Newman, and three brothers, Herbert, Robert and John Gregory. She was born into one of the families that survived the Great Depression through hard work and she fought World War II on the home front. She raised her four children while holding down a full-time job and caring for her aging parents and father-in-law. She was one of the oldest members of Jonesville Baptist Church where she served faithfully as choir member, leader of Vacation Bible School, and Beginner Sunday School Director for 60+ years. She helped build a firm foundation in the lives of the children and every child left her class knowing that "Miss Doris" and Jesus loved them. Her home-bound and nursing-home friends looked forward to her regular visits and they, as well as her friends and neighbors, enjoyed her home cooked meals, which she so generously shared, as long as she was able. She was known in the community for her "fried apples pies". Missing her until they meet again in Heaven are her son William Kevin Fowler; her daughters, Mary Ellen Hindman, Patsy Newman, and Travis Ruth Fowler; four granddaughters, Delayne Seay (Jim), Michele Burnett (David), Stacie Clary (Matt) and Ellen Hindman; six great-grandsons, David Alan (Sarah) and Hollis Burnett, Jamey and Jacob Seay, Ryan and Nick Clary, and a devoted brother, Fred Gregory, who steadfastly watched over her as long as his health permitted. She also leaves behind caregivers and neighbors who made it possible for her to stay in her home. The family will always be grateful to them and her friends for their support. While mourning their loss, it is with joy and gratitude that they celebrate her life at her beloved Jonesville Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 1:30 PM with the Rev. Scott Cannon officiating and Ms. Becky Quinn providing the music. Interment will follow in Jonesville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Coley Jackson and her six great-grandsons with Jim Gregory serving as alternate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:15 PM at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Jonesville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 279, Jonesville, SC 29353. The family will be at their respective homes.
