Mrs. Doris Varner Lawson, age 90, of 1574 Kelly Rd., Union, widow of James "Doomer" Lawson, went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, September 24, 2022 surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Lawson was born at Fort Benning, Columbus, GA, September 11, 1932, a daughter of the late James "Jim" Varner and Mittie Ruth Garner Varner. She worked at several places during her life, including Conso, Buffalo Mill, Monarch Mill, Buffalo Seafood and was the lunchroom superintendent at Kelly-Pinckney Elementary. Mrs. Lawson was an active member of Philippi Baptist Church where she was a faithful member to the Women's II Sunday School Class and the Joy Club. She dearly loved her church and her church family. She had one very special friend at church, Drew Bentley.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Lawson Finch and husband Ray, and Cheryl Lawson all of Union; grandchildren, Tonya Horne Johnson and husband Rodney, Shannon Horne Sumner and husband Richie, Brad Horne and wife Kindra, Jeremy Dye and wife Sarah, and Anna Dye Threatt and husband Jason; and great-grandchildren, Dillon Sumner, Blake Johnson, Gabby Manus, Ethan Sumner, Lindsey Johnson, Trent Horne, James Dye and Lucy Dye. Mrs. Lawson in also survived by several nieces and nephews and two chosen daughters, Alice Knox Williams and Judy Knox McClain. She was predeceased by a brother, Dwaine Varner.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, September 26, 2022, at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Scott, Rev. Tommy Mann and Rev. Lee Coyle. Burial will be at Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church prior to the services.
Active pallbearers will be Brad Horne, Jeremy Dye, Dillon Sumner, Blake Johnson, Ethan Sumner, Trent Horne, Richie Sumner, Rodney Johnson and Jason Threatt. Members of the Women's II Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Karen and Ray Finch, 1566 Kelly Rd., Union, SC 29379.
