Doris F. Russell

Mrs. Doris Foster Russell, widow of David Gordon Russell, Sr., passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at Union Post Acute.

Mrs. Russell was born in Laurens, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Laura Lake Foster and James Clarence Foster. She graduated as class valedictorian from Laurens High School. She graduated from Winthrop College and later did graduate study at Furman University and the University of South Carolina. She retired from teaching Home Economics at Union High School.

Mrs. Russell was an active lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church. She served and chaired numerous committees at the church. Mrs. Russell was a member of the Circle of Hope and organized and prepared many meals and functions at Grace Methodist.

In addition, Mrs. Russell was a member of the Board of Directors of the Union County Arts Council and served as Treasurer for over 10 years. She also served as hospitality chairman for art events and receptions.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Russell Hunter and husband, Dr. Jack Potter. Mrs. Russell was predeceased by her son, David Gordon Russell, Jr. (Heather). She is also survived by a nephew, Charles Foster Gwinn, niece, Mary Coleman, great niece, Emma Gwinn Kornegay (Soren), and great-great nephews, Mal and Theo.

Mrs. Russell was known as a gracious hostess and loved entertaining her friends in her home. Her cooking and homemaking skills were unmatched, and she was famous for her cakes and desserts. Mrs. Russell was also known for her meticulous attention to detail and pursuit of excellence in everything she did. She took pride in doing things the right way, no matter how small the task.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Lee Phillips. A reception and visitation will follow the services in the church Fellowship Hall.
