Dorothy (Smith) Nichols

Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Smith Nichols passed into the Glory of her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 31, 2022. She was surrounded by her loving family at home on Hillcrest Drive.

A daughter of the late Mr. J. Henry Smith and Mrs. Lila Mae Thomas Smith, Mrs. Nichols was born in Union on March 7, 1929. She was a Union High School graduate, class of 1946 and a substitute teacher for 13 years in Union County Schools.

Mrs. Nichols is survived by her son Skee Nichols, daughter Tweedie (Mike) Mills, son-in-law Sam White, and daughter-in-law Sheila Nichols; grandchildren: Sam (Jill) White, Emily (Rusty) Curry, Ashley (Matthew) Taylor, Josie White (fiancé Dustin Ivey), Nic (Ashley) Mills, Tripp Nichols; and seven great-grandchildren: Brandon White, Ryder Curry, Annie Curry, Hadley Taylor, Lynan Curry, Hazel Taylor and Zac Mills. She was the devoted wife of the late James Arledge Nichols, Sr. for 43 years of happy marriage. She was also predeceased by her beloved daughter Lila Kate Nichols White (Kakie), son James Arledge Nichols, Jr. (Bubba), and a baby brother Robert Wallace Smith.

Dot loved the Lord, Tabernacle Baptist Church and its people. She was Chairman of the Neal Young Circle for many years. She was a member of the "Keenagers" and "Recycled Teens" as well as the Judy Graham Sunday School Class. On May 10, 2020, she was honored as "Mother of the Year" at TBC. She loved working in her yard, flying with her family and traveling with her friends, the "Golden Girls," in earlier years. Most of all she loved being a wife and mother. Her four children; Kakie, Tweedie, Bubba and Skee were her greatest joy. She was known by all to be a truly devoted wife, mother and friend.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Gary Ward and Rev. Dr. Thomas Vaughn.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active Pallbearers will be Tommy Genoble, Foster Jordan, George Faucett, Gregg Lawson, Lynn Lawson, and Frank Humphries.  The following are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort, Marion Harris, Chuck Malone, Steve Fore, James Coffer, Jay Coffer, Wayne Lawson, Joe Lawson, Dudley Adams, Brad Bradley, Parks Avery, Rev. Tommy McManus, Whitney Smith, Wilbur Smith, Roger Wade, Barry Wynn, Jan Gunter, Don Raye Shetley, Lynn Eaves, Dale Billings, her special lifelong friends, Evelyn Ruth "Tuck" Tucker, Peggy Langley, Doris Vaughan, Pat Long and members of The Judy Graham Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday Evening at Tabernacle Baptist Church.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Spartanburg Regional Hospice and to Mrs. Nichols' special caregivers Hazel Adams and Lisa Morgan.
