Mrs. Mary Edith Hodge Proctor, age 95 of Sonoco Rd., Union, widow of Wells Proctor, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at Heartland of Union. Mrs. Proctor was born in Union, November 3, 1922 a daughter of the late Samuel Hodge and the late Bertha Susan Fowler Hodge Jones; her step-father was the late William Jennings Jones. She was retired from Milliken and Co., Lockhart Plant and was a member of Gilead Baptist Church. Mrs. Proctor resided at Heartland of Union for the past two years; first in assisted living and then in the nursing center, where the staff kindly and lovingly cared for her. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy P. Sykes and husband Jimmy of Buffalo; three sisters: Leila J. Shirley, Ethel Palmer and Betty Grady all of Union; three grandchildren: Amy Whitfield and husband Robert of North Augusta, Jamie Sykes and wife Angie of Abbeville and David Sykes and wife Leslie of Gilbert; 5 great-grandchildren: Wilson Sykes of Clemson, Linsey Sykes of Abbeville, Wells, Sara, and Lizzie Sykes all of Gilbert and a step-great-grandson, Nicholas Whitfield of North Augusta. Mrs. Proctor was predeceased by three sisters, Doris Elizabeth Cooke, Nattie Ruth Montgomery and Johnnie West and by one brother, William H. "Bill" Jones. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Lawton Neely and Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Sunday at the church prior to the services. Memorials may be made to Gilead Baptist Church, P.O. Box 38, Jonesville, SC 29353. The family will be at the home of her daughter, Nancy and Jimmy Sykes, 828 Riley Rd., Buffalo.
