Mr. Edward Gerald Burwell, age 69 of 102 W. South Street, Union, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Heartland of Union. Mr. Burwell was born in Michigan, September 23, 1947, a son of Virginia Lee Burwell of FL and the late Gerald Burwell. He was a graduate of Bloomfield High School, Oakland University and received his Master's Degree from Wayne State University. Mr. Burwell retired as Librarian of the Union County Carnegie Library. He was a member of the Historical Society; Vietnam Veterans of American #644; the American Legion Post 22 and also a member of Friends of the Library. Mr. Burwell was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War. Surviving are four brothers: Phillip Burwell and wife Carol of Washington State, Seattle, Patrick Burwell and wife Thu-Ha of FL, Douglas Burwell and Nicholas Burwell and wife Betsy all of MI. Mr. Burwell was predeceased by a sister, Martha Burwell. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Veterans Park conducted by Rev. Tommy Vaughn. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors. Active pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the American Legion Post 22 and members of the Vietnam Veterans of America #644. Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM Wednesday prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Union County Historical Society, P.O. Box 220, Union, SC 29379. The family will be at their respective homes.
