Mrs. Ellen Lawson O'Shields, age 88, formerly of Buffalo, widow of J.M. O'Shields, Jr., went home to be with the Lord, Friday, October 24, 2014 surrounded by her family. Mrs. O'Shields was born in Spartanburg Co., April 26, 1926 a daughter of the late Lecil and Ruth Lawson. She was a graduate of West Springs High School and was a homemaker. Mrs. O'Shields was a member of Putman Baptist Church for approximately 70 years. She was a Sunday School teacher for the children and youth departments and was a WMU director. Mrs. O'Shields was active in other mission projects of the church as long as her health permitted. Surviving are a son, Marshall O'Shields and wife Mary of Buffalo; two grandson, Dean of Seattle, WA and Jay and wife Rhonda of Olympia, WA; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister Verlie Lawson of Inman; a brother, Mac Lawson of Spartanburg and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Arlee and Sidney, and three brothers, Lewis, Lamar and James. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, October 27, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, Davis Chapel conducted by Rev. Sal Barone and Rev. Bob Neely. The family will receive friends prior to the services at the church from 1:00 until 1:45 PM. Burial will follow at Putman Baptist Church in Buffalo, SC. Active pallbearers will be Earl Evans, Donnie Berry, Neil Towery, Tommy Jefferies, Raymond Lawson and Josh Dill. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Encouraging Word Broadcast, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306.
