Ernest Zellon Simmons

Mr. Ernest Zellon Simmons better known to many as “Ernie” or “Buddy”, age 84, husband of Pauline Birchfield Simmonsd, Jonesville, passed away June 17, 2026.

Ernie was born March 7, 1942, in Sumter SC, the son of the late Emory Zellon Simmons and Eloise Langston Simmons. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a firefighter. Ernie was of the Baptist faith, which remained an important part of his life. He eventually made his way to Pacolet SC where he built a life with his own two hands. A skilled machinist by trade, he spent years building and fixing things, probably whilst arguing about the “right” way to do them.

Mr. Simmons leaves behind his loving wife, Pauline (Birchfield). He was the father to three children and six grandchildren.

Ernie will be remembered not a flawless man, but as a genuine one.

The family has celebrated Ernie’s life with a private service.
