Ernestine Owens Hopkins

Mrs. Ernestine Owens Hopkins, age 87, widow of Marvin Hopkins, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 20, 2022.

Mrs. Hopkins was born in Union, March 17, 1935, a daughter of the late George Cannon Owens and Lillian Dill Falls Owens. She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where she was a former member of the choir and served as a Vacation Bible School teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins both served their church as Youth Leaders.

Some of Mrs. Hopkins' favorite verses from the Bible are from Philippians 4:4-7: "Rejoice in the Lord always…and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard you hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Mrs. Hopkins was always happy and content no matter what her circumstances might have been because she had the Joy of the Lord in her heart. She hid God's Word in her heart, and His love was always a shining light radiating to everyone around her.

Mrs. Hopkins' family would like to express their love and appreciation to friends, caregivers at home, Spartanburg Regional Hospice, and to all of her sweet angels at Ellen Sagar Nursing Center who loved her and took such wonderful care her over the last 4 years while she was a resident there. The Ellen Sagar staff and residents became part of the family for Mrs. Hopkins and her family.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Ann Carroll and husband Barry of Buffalo; a son, David Hopkins of North Carolina; a sister, Millie Owens Ramsey of Spartanburg and two grandchildren, Matthew Carroll and wife Amanda and Mark Carroll and wife Erika, and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Carroll. Mrs. Hopkins was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Falls Cathcart and Mary Falls Kennett, and two brothers, William Falls and Lawrence Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Melvin Shelton and Rev. Guy Langston. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church prior to the services.

Active pallbearers will be Matthew Carroll, Mark Carroll, Mike Cathcart, Dennis Seay, Joe Billings and Don Tucker.

Memorials may be made to Ellen Sagar Nursing Center, Activities Dept. 1817 Jonesville Hwy., Union, SC 29379.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Betty Ann and Barry Carroll, 171 Dutchman Creek Rd., Buffalo.
