Florence Barnett Meador, 87, of Darlington, SC, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday. March 25, 2026. She was the widow of Leon Berry (Butch) Meador.

Florence was born in Buffalo, SC the daughter of the late Jessie Ervin (Bill) Barnett and Lottie Lorene O’Shields Barnett. Florence was a 1957 graduate of Union High School. Butch and Florence married in 1958 and had 43 years of marriage until his passing in 2001. She was an active member of Putnam Baptist church and then New Life Baptist Church, serving in many areas until she moved to Bethea Retirement Community in 2018 where she continued serving the Lord. She retired from Milliken and Company Cedar Hill Plant in 2002. She then became a volunteer at Wallace Thomson Hospital where she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2014. She loved helping others throughout her life in whatever capacity she was needed. She also enjoyed gardening, genealogy, and especially traveling, where she visited 49 states, but her favorites were always the Great Smoky Mountains and anywhere she went with her family. She loved her Lord, her family and her friends.

Florence was preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence Wayne Barnett.

She is survived by her daughter, Delaine (Terry) Simonson; granddaughter, Ally Simonson; sister-in-law, Sue Barnett; nephew, Jeff (Kim) Barnett; great-nephews, Hayes and Cole Barnett; and a number of special nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be made to Hoffmeyer Road Baptist Church, 2317 Hoffmeyer Road, Florence, SC 29501 or New Life Baptist Church, 502 Meansville Road, Union, SC 29379.

The family will receive friends at Holcombe Funeral Home at 10:00am on Saturday, March 28, 2026, with service following at 11:00am. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

A memorial service will also be held at Bethea Retirement Community Chapel on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Visitation will follow the service.

The family would like to thank family and friends for their support during her illness. Also a special thanks to McLeod Hospice House for their loving care during her final days.

The family will be at the home of Sue Barnett.
