Mr. Frankie Charles Greer, age 70, gained his heavenly wings, Friday, November 8, 2019. A native of Union Co., he was the son of the late Alfred Charles Greer and Edith Johnson Greer Lee. Mr. Greer was employed with Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing for 27 years as an electrician. He was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Technical College earning his Certificate in Industrial Electronics. He attended Greenville Technical College receiving his CDL licenses after both of his sons were out of college and on their own. He worked for Randolph Trucking until retirement. Frankie is survived by his wife of 47 years, Claudia Jean May Greer; two sons, that he loved dearly, Charles Alexander "Alex" Greer and wife Dona Huskey Greer of Gaffney and Heath Chadrick "Chad" Greer and wife Sheri Hovsepian Greer of Union. He is also survived by three grandsons that he was very proud of, all honor students; Austin Charles Greer, Landon Alexander Greer both of Gaffney and Adam Joseph Greer of Union. He was also survived by a brother, Johnny "Allan" Greer and wife Viola DesChamps Greer of Cayce and a sister, Rebecca Gail Greer of Atlanta, GA and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Greer served in the US Navy from 1969 until 1971 on the USS Ranger CVA-61 Aircraft Carrier. After he was discharges from active duty, he served in the Naval Reserves, Spartanburg Unit and later in the SC National Guard, Union Unit. Frankie and his family restored the "Hollis Home" in Cross Keys in 1988 and lived there for 21 years before downsizing to his Mothers's home in Jonesville in 2009. Frankie was a member of Padgett's Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell and Rev. Scott Cannon. Burial with Military Honors will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 Sunday at the chapel prior to the services. Active pallbearers will be Brad May, Matt May, Steve Hoffaman, Gene "Doc" Lipsey, Pat Littlejohn, M.A. "Pee-Wee" Starkman, Stanley Wells and Ted Belue. The following are asked to sit in a group: Charles Sanders, Pearl Crocker, Cindy Ivey, Beverly Smith, Harold Lawson, Emma Garner, Nancy Lipsey, Grady Fuller, Dennis Pridmore, Banny Kennedy, Rachel Dean, Michell Maness, Jim Rice, Margaret May, Jim Maness, Patsy Allen, Joe Plott and Susan May Plott. The family wishes to extend a special "Thank You" to Spartanburg Regional Hospice especially Rachel Dean and Michelle Manus along with the Jonesville Baptist Church G.R.O.W. Team for their support and care shown to Frankie and his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Padgett's Creek Baptist Church, 843 Old Buncombe Rd., Union, SC 29379 or to Jonesville Baptist Church G.R.O.W. Team, P.O. Box 279, Jonesville, SC 29353 or to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Care, 120 Heywood Ave., Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family will be at their respective homes.
