Gail Smith Cobb

November 22, 2018 Mrs. Gail Smith Cobb, age 84, of 109 Carter St., Union, widow of Raymond Edward Cobb, Sr., passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Cobb was born in Ware Shoals, November 8, 1934, a daughter of the late Roy Cleveland Smith and Mary Elizabeth Shumpert Smith. She was a graduate of Ware Shoals High School and retired after 25 years from the Union Co. Recreation Dept. where she had served as Director. Mrs. Cobb was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church and was the last original member of the Carlisle Willing Workers. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, served on the board of the Salvation Army and was an avid supporter and worker for the Union Co. High School Booster Club. Surviving are a daughter, Vicki Cobb McCully of Union; three sons, Raymond E. "Ray" Cobb, Jr. of Columbia, Roy Steven "Steve" Cobb and wife Becky, and Rev. Robert Scott Cobb and wife Rhonda all of Union; a sister, Nancy Smith Yockel of Union; a brother, Lamar R. Smith of Greenville; four grandchildren, Michelle Helton, Brandi Boughman, Will Cobb and wife Sarah and Michael Cobb and wife Betsy; five great-grandchildren, Alexis McGowan, Ayden Boughman, Sophia Cobb, Mason Cobb and Alleigh Corley; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 26, 2018 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chris Gulledge, Rev. Benny Green and Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Whitney Smith, Ronnie Wade, Sam Phipps, Ronnie Yount, Bill Goodwin and Jim Cunningham. Members of the Jim Smith Sunday School class of Mon Aetna Baptist Church and the staff and nurses of Medi Home Hospice are asked to sit in a group. Memorials may be made to the Union Co. Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 951, Union, SC 29379. The family will be at the home, 109 Carter St., Union.
