Gail Patrick Martin was welcomed into her heavenly home on Thursday, August 11, 2016. She was born July 9, 1945, in Fort Bragg, NC, to Earl Wilmore and Mary Evelyn Jeter Patrick. Since 2012, she resided in Atlanta, GA, and fought a long, courageous battle with a brain tumor. Prior to her move to Atlanta, she taught first grade for 30 years in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County, North Carolina schools. She was beloved by students, parents, colleagues and a host of friends. She was an active member of Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Gail Martin grew up in Raleigh, NC, where she graduated from Needham Broughton High School in 1963. A graduate of Peace College (now William Peace University), she received her B.A. in Education in 1967 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, John E. Patrick and Jerry H. Patrick. She is survived by her son, Michael Todd Martin and wife, Julianne Sparks Martin; grandsons Benjamin Patrick Martin and Alexander Charles Martin, all of Atlanta. Never one to forget a birthday or overlook special events in the lives of her friends and family, Gail will be remembered for her generosity and unfailing kindness. She maintained friendships for life and shared her gentle spirit, courage and faith with many. Her smile and the joy she created will be greatly missed. Services will be held in the Jeter Family Chapel at the Jeter Cemetery in Union, SC, on Saturday, August 13, at 2:00 p.m., with burial following the service. Prior to the service, visitation will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the chapel.
