Gene Carroll Harris, Jr.

July 31, 2014 Mr. Gene Carroll Harris, Jr., age 70 of 102 Walker Heights, Union, widower of Cheryl Grady Harris, passed away Wednesday July 30, 2014 at his home. Mr. Harris was born in Swain County, NC February 6, 1944, a son of the late Gene C. Harris, Sr. and Alice T. Holden Harris. He was a retired textile worker and was a Veteran of the US Army having served during the Cuban Crisis. Mr. Harris was also a former member of the South Carolina National Guard and was of the Baptist Faith. Surviving are a daughter, Michelle H. Austin and husband Shannon of Union; three sons: Gene C. "Trey" Harris, III and wife Lisa of Greenville, Michael L. Harris and wife Lynn of Jonesville and Mark A. Harris and wife Erica of the home; two sisters: Faye H. Davis and husband Harold of Union and Linda H. Littlejohn and husband Joe of Buffalo; a brother, Richard W. Harris and wife Angie of Jonesville; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Harris is also survived and loved by numerous nieces, nephews and a beloved pet dog, Freckles. A Memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Covenant Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will be in the Rosemont Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday evening at the church. The family is at the home, 102 Walker Heights, Union.
