A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Friday at the chapel prior to the services.
Mr. George Michael "Cooter" Brawley, age 74, passed away at his home on September 21, 2024 after a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Brawley was born in Union, May 12, 1950, a son of the late Willie Brawley and Louise Smith.
George served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 until 1970 and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. After his honorable discharge from the military, he attended USC and received an Associate's Degree in Science and Commercial Education. He also majored in business administration and minored in psychology. He later worked for and retired from Milliken and Co.
Surviving are a daughter, Tracy Sinclair and husband David of Pauline; a son, Jackie Brawley and wife Debbie of Pacolet; two grandchildren, Cliff Dill and Casey Leroy (Austin), and great grandchildren, Dawton, Landen, Bryson, Bently, Lindzey and Kohner. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Brawley and Dean Brawley and a sister, Joyce Ward. George is also survived by his two loving dogs "Ugly" and "Boots" who he treated like children.
George loved collecting coins. He shared this interest with a special friend, Comrade Kamdon. He was also very involved in politics and said he was sure Donald Trump would be our president again.
Thanks to all the nurses and social workers at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home for all their support and kind words. Also thank you to Parker Medical Supply for all their help and kindness.
The family will be at their respective homes.
