Mr. George Calvin Painter, Sr., age 86, of 162 Georgia Road, widower of Victoria (Dolly) Painter, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 at his home. Mr. Painter was born in Union on May 11, 1928 a son of the late Monroe Lawson Painter and Dolly Tessnar Painter. He was a graduate of Union High School. Mr. Painter was a Veteran having served in the US Marines and the US Navy. He was a Mason and Mr. Painter was a member of Greater Union Church. Surviving are four daughters, Rebecca (Becky) Moss, Carol Murphy, Georgia and husband Phillip (Randall) Murphy, and Debra and husband Roger Petty all of Union; one son Anthony Lawson Painter of Union; ten grandchildren, Joy and husband Tim Langbein of New York, NY, Toni (Susie) and husband Gene Gregory of Union, Christy and husband Warren Jones of Pauline, Herbert Carroll, II (Bert) and wife Mitzi Murphy of Moore, Angie and husband Heath Ivey of Richmond Hill, GA, Tracy and wife Amy Petty of Union, Wendy Murphy Knox of Spartanburg, Aimee Murphy Teal of Union, Chris and wife Crystal Petty of Gaffney, and Rebecca and husband Robert Hope of Columbia, SC; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Nuddie Mae and husband Winford Blackwell of Gaffney and Kathleen Benton of Union; and special friends Tim Pridemore and Ricky Black both of Union. He was predeceased by one son, George Painter, Jr.; one granddaughter, Cindy Lynn Murphy; one sister, Betty Jean Boulware; and one brother James Painter. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, October 27, 2014 at Greater Union Church conducted by Pastor John Cody and Pastor Roger Estes. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Justin Hart, Nicholas Hart, Christian Petty, Hunter Petty, Mark Spencer, Mathew Crocker, Andrew Crocker, and Tony Moss.
