Gerald Griffen Henderson

December 4, 1937 — May 2, 2021

Mr. Gerald Griffen Henderson, age 83, husband of Nell Meadows Henderson of 2273 Hunters Lane, Blairs, VA went home to be with his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, whom he faithfully served, Sunday, May 2, 2021.

Mr. Henderson was born in Union, December 4, 1937, a son of the late Ernest Henderson and Laura Mae Maness Henderson.  He was a graduate of Union High School and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church and served as a deacon and taught Sunday school.  After moving to Virginia, Mr. Henderson and his wife, Nell joined Blairs Baptist Church where he continued his love of the Bible and spreading the word of Jesus Christ, by teaching Sunday school, serving as a deacon and was dedicated to the youth of the church.  He worked at Dan River Mills in Danville, VA until his retirement. Mr. Henderson was an avid Clemson Tiger fan and former IPTAY member and avid Atlanta Braves fan.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.

Surviving in addition to his wife, the love of his life of sixty-five years, is two sons, Tim Henderson (Teresa) and John "John Boy" Henderson (Wanda) all of Union; and a daughter, Jill Howell (Doug) of VA; he was blessed with a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a sister, Elaine H. Sinclair (Larry) and a brother, Edward Henderson all of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews.  Mr. Henderson was predeceased by a sister, Earlene H. Suttles and two brothers, Kenneth "Kent" Henderson and Eugene "Wayne" Henderson.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 8, 2021at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Don McCutcheon. Visitation will be held immediately following the services at the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Blairs Baptist Church, 5260 U S Highway 29, Blairs, VA 24527, or Browns Creek Baptist Church, 118 Browns Creek Church Rd., Union, SC 29379.

The family would like to express a heartfelt "Thank You" to Blairs Baptist Church for the love and compassion shown to our family.
