Gwendolyn "Gang" (Gowan) Harvey

June 26, 1930 — October 26, 2025

Mrs. Gwendolyn ("Gang") Gowan Harvey, loving wife of Chester Marvin Harvey for 75 years, went to be with her Lord on October 26, at the age of 95.

Mrs. Harvey was born on June 26, 1930 to the late William Marion Gowan and Kathalee Lancaster Gowan, and was also blessed with a loving step-mother Dorothy Mitchell Gowan. She retired from Spartanburg School District Six after many years of service. She was a devoted member of West Springs Baptist Church for 74 years where she served in many capacities during that time. One of her early roles was in Training Union, where she was blessed during her life to see many of the young students she once taught flourish into successful adults.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons William Doyle Harvey (Sherri) of Pauline, Alan Keith Harvey (Cindi) of Pauline, and a daughter-in-law, Brenda M. Harvey of Pauline, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild, along with many nieces and nephews. "Gang" will be deeply missed by her family, whom she loved so well. Mrs. Harvey was predeceased by a son Randall Marvin Harvey, brother Mickey Gowan, and sisters Jonelle Gowan West, Doris Gowan Edens, and Gail Gowan.

A celebration of her life will be held at West Springs Baptist Church on Friday, October 31 at 3:00pm conducted by Rev. Mark Truitt and Rev. Mike Royal. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM in the church sanctuary. Burial service will follow in the church cemetery with special music by Rev. Norman Band.

Active pallbearers will be Brad Harvey, Doyle Harvey, Dylan Reich, Jesse Harvey, Randall Harvey, and Willie Harvey. The following are asked to be seated behind the pallbearers: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lancaster, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Kendrick, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Gault, along with Mrs. Linda Mayes and Ms. Cathy Patrick. In addition, the family would like the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class and Senior Adult Life Group to sit in this reserved area as well.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and Ms. Cathy Patrick for their loving care.

The family is at the home, 920 Mount Lebanon Road, Pauline.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to West Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 4811 Buffalo West Springs Hwy, Pauline, SC 29374.
