H. Maxie Murphy

Mr. H. Maxie Murphy, age 93, husband of Mary Scales Murphy of 1120 Meansville Rd., Union, passed away Friday April 14, 2017 at Heartland of Union. Mr. Murphy was born in Cross Keys, October 19, 1923, a son of the late John P. and Lottie Wilburn Murphy. He was a graduate of Cross Keys High School and retired from the City of Union after 34 years with the Utilities Dept. where he had served as assistant director. Mr. Murphy was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII and was a member of New Life Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife of 74 years are two sons, Ricky Murphy and wife Jennifer, and Maxie "Gene" Murphy and fiancée Suzy Brooks all of Union; a granddaughter, Amanda McDade and husband Adam of O'Fallon, IL; two grandsons; Gene Murphy and Stefan Murphy and wife Melisa all of Union; six great-grandchildren; Ivy, Lindsey, Hayden, Colton, Lila, and Emma. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 16, 2017 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Shannon Faulkner, Rev Guy Langston and Rev. Todd Davis. Members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, Judy Kerr, and Kathy Cudd are asked to sit in a group. Entombment will be at Union Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be at the cemetery immediately following the service. The family will be at the home, 1120 Meansville Rd., Union.
