Mr. Harvey Reid Palmer, age 81, husband of Mazel Lee Davis Palmer of 408 Lakeview Heights, Union, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 at his home. Mr. Palmer was born in Union, SC August 17, 1933, a son of the late Ed Washington Palmer and Mary Elizabeth Tweed Palmer. He was a graduate of Union High School and Limestone College. Mr. Palmer retired from Milliken & Co. and was a member of the Union Lions Club where in 1990 he was named Lion of the Year. Mr. Palmer was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a Lay Leader, Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer. Mr. Palmer also served on the Pastor Parrish Relation Committee, and served as Chairman of the Administrative Board and the Stewardship Committee. Mr. Palmer was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Sereeda Palmer Callahan and husband Jack of Fort Mill; a granddaughter, Jenna Callahan Goodwin and husband Jonathan of Carrbobo, NC; a grandson, Jordan Reid Callahan of Columbia and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Palmer was predeceased by sisters, Annie Mae Vinson, Vera Gault, Floree Robinson, Ethel Crosby, Betty Phillips and Shirley Fuller and brothers, Bruce, Bob, Neely, Ed W., Perrin and Henry Palmer. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Donna Eidson. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Richie Brown, Alvin Robinson, Ronnie Eaves, Robert Brown, Charles Bailey, Mike Robinson, Eddie Palmer and Jonathan Burnett. The following are asked to serve as the Honorary Escort: Members of the Mary Ruth Vanderford Sunday School Class, members of the Laura Farr Sunday School Class, Leon Davis, Sammy Cook, Tom McAbee, Jimmy and Rozie Kingsmore, Olin Robinson, Jerome Brooks, Keith and Ann Bailey, George Ashmore, Halon Duckett, Howard Whitehead, Bryant and Edith Ley, Donald and Shirley Farr, Donald Robinson and members of the Union Lions Club. Visitation will be held 1:30-2:45 PM Sunday in the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 373 Wesley Chapel Church Rd., Union, SC 29379. The family is at the home, 408 Lakeview Heights, Union.
