Mrs. Hazel James Black age 97, widow of Fred Hayes Black, Sr. of 3655 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Mrs. Black was born in Union, June 3, 1922 a daughter of the late Wade Hampton James and Maggie Spillers James. She was a faithful member of the Union Church of God and loved to crochet and knit items to be given away through the church ministry. Surviving are three daughters, Faye B. Griffin, Kathy B. Erwin and husband Danny all of Union and Judy B. Crocker and husband Dennis of Woodruff; a son, Fred H. Black, Jr. and wife Tanja of Union; a sister, Jeanette McDaniel of Flint, MI; twelve grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Black was predeceased by two daughters, Barbara B. Predue and Robin B. Erwin; two sisters and two brothers. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 4, 2019 at the Union Church of God conducted by Rev. Stewart Anderson. Burial will be at Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until 2:00 PM Friday at the church prior to the services. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Erwin, Kyle Black, Travis Black, Conner Black, Richard Crocker, Scott Griffin and Chris Griffin. The family wishes to say a special "Thank You" to the staff and nurses of MSA Hospice and Mrs. Black's very special and personal caregiver, Shirley Donald for their love and care during her illness. Staff and nurses of MSA Hospice are asked to sit in a group. Memorials may be made to Union Church of God, 1113 Thompson Blvd., Union, SC 29379. The family will be at the home of her daughter, Kathy and Danny Erwin, 646 Kelly Rd., Union.
