July 30, 2014 Mrs. Helen Fowler Garner, widow of Edwin Grady Garner, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Skylyn Place in Spartanburg. Mrs. Garner was born in Union County, May 25, 1924, a daughter of the late Paul James Fowler and Lillie Mae Fowler Fowler. She was a graduate of Anderson School of Nursing. She retired from Cone Mill Carlisle Finishing as plant nurse. Mrs. Garner also was formerly employed as a nurse for forty years with Dr. Hope and Dr. Hames. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and had attended Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Nanci G. West and husband Johnny of Port Orange, FL; two grandsons: Shane Garner of Jonesville and Christopher Hucks of Daytona Beach, FL; a step-granddaughter, Donna Dunford and husband Tom of Myrtle Beach; a step-grandson, Chris West and wife Kim of Roebuck; four step-great-grandchildren and a special niece, Annette Langford and husband Steve of York. Mrs. Garner was predeceased by a son, James Edwin Garner and a sister, Evelyn Fowler Roe. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 1, 2014 at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Glen Ribelin. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held 10:00-11:00 AM Friday in the chapel prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 611, Union, SC 29379 or to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 951, Union, SC 29379. The family is at the home of her grandson, Shane Garner, 135 B Street, Jonesville, SC 29353.
