Mrs. Helen Louise Tucker Gowan, age 82 of 1023 Meansville Rd., Union, widow of Charles Richard Gowan, Sr, passed away Friday, August 29, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Gowan was born July 31, 1932, a daughter of the late Rev. Jonas Thomas Tucker and Annie Mae Gibson Tucker. She retired from Milliken & Co - Monarch Plant and was a member of New Life Baptist Church. Mrs. Gowan was also a member of the Bonham Club and the Clemson Extension. Surviving are two sons: Charles Richard Gowan, Jr and Fiancee' Patty Nave and Alan Lee Gowan and wife Pamela all of Union; three grandsons: Stacy Gowan, Daniel Gowan and David Gowan all of Union; six great-grandchildren: Daniel Gowan, Brianna Gowan, Charlie Gowan, Reese Gowan, Riley Gowan and Bella Gowan; four sisters: Katherine James of Spartanburg, Betty Seagars and husband Victor, Mary Alice Carter and Lena McConnell and husband Foster all of Cowpens; a brother, Alfred Tucker and wife Thelma of Cowpens and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3:00 Sunday, August 31, 2014 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Shannon Faulkner and Rev. Daniel Blackwell. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Bud Carter, Ryan Carter, Johnny Ward, Jimmy Hughes, Bill James and Ralph Arthur. Visitation will be held 1:30-2:45 PM Sunday in the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church, 502 Meansville Rd., Union, SC 29379 or to Gentiva Hospice, 905 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home, 1023 Meansville Rd., Union, SC 29379.
