Helen Smith West

Mrs. Helen Smith West, age 74, wife of John H. West, Jr., of 445 Bishop Rd., Union passed away, Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca. Mrs. West was born in Union, SC September 10, 1942 a daughter of the late Joseph Wilson Smith and Myrtle Greer Smith. She was a graduate of Union High School and Cecil's Business College. Mrs. West was a member of Lower Fairforest Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir. Surviving in addition to husband are one daughter, Caroline Burgess and husband Lane of West Union; one son, John Christopher West and wife Ashley of Seneca; one sister, Peggy Smith of Union; one brother, Rev. Joseph Wilson Smith and wife June of Union; six grandchildren, Bradley Burgess, Michael Burgess, Madison Burgess, Tyler Sanders, Karley West, and Ivey West; and one great-granddaughter, Genesis Sanders. She was predeceased by one brother, Bobby Gene Smith. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Jim Cunningham. Visitation will be held after the services in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to GHS Cottingham Hospice House, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672. The family is at their respective homes.
