Henry M. Hollingsworth

d. July 9, 2015

July 9, 2015 Henry Millus "Tank" Hollingsworth, 86, 850 Beltline Road, Union went home to be with the Lord July 8, 2015. He was the son of Cuspert and Lillian Hollingsworth. Married for 62 years to the love of his life, Patricia Eubanks Hollingsworth and loving her, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, he set an example of how a man should live on this Earth. Tank loved the Lord and could be seen regularly at his church, Morningside Baptist. He loved his family. Tank and Pat shared a lifetime of happiness, camping with their children when they were younger, gardening, and enjoying Pat's famous cooking, especially her pound cakes. He taught his sons, Tim and Terry, to cook two special items, chicken stew and BBQ. The three of them spent many hours together honing the recipes. He was the father every girl needs to have. He enthusiastically attended 18 of Toni's piano recitals, yes...18, and also served as her on-call handyman. Tank loved the water, having served 8 years in the United States Navy. He passed that love down to his four granddaughters, teaching them how to swim and ski. His four great-grandchildren were so fortunate to know him. He delighted in all of their accomplishments, whether it was pitching a no-hitter, dancing on stage for the first time, or just learning to blow a kiss, Tank thought they were perfect. Tank's favorite pastime was golf. And if you ever played with him, you knew that you had better follow every rule. He would hold you to them. Many of his friends said that had he began playing golf at a younger age, he could have played professionally. He was named Club Champion several times, at both the Union Country Club and River Chase Golf Club. He and his family were especially proud the last time he won, because he was in his seventies. Tank also enjoyed fast-pitch softball, playing in his younger days and later just watching from the sidelines. He was retired from Cone Mills where he had served as foreman over the shop. He took pride in hard work and in doing a job right. Tank was also a member of Masonic Lodge #75. Though he will be greatly missed, his family has precious memories to cherish because Tank always made spending time with them a priority. Surviving in addition to his wife, Pat, are three children, Tim (Peggy) Hollingsworth, Terry (Rhonda) Hollingsworth, and Toni (David Green) Hollingsworth; granddaughters Jaime (Jeff) Strickland, Brianne (Scott) Sanders, Brooke (Chris) Boulware, and Kelly (Shaun) Watson; great-grandchildren Aidan Strickland, Ella Sanders, McKinley Sanders, and Sawyer Watson. Henry was predeceased by three sisters and a brother. A Celebration of Life service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Aubrey Calvert and Mr. David C. Green. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Scott Sanders, Jeff Strickland, Shaun Watson, Chris Boulware, Frankie Morrison, and Randy Morrison. Honorary pall bearers will be The JD Gaines Sunday School Class, Donald Warren, Joe Haney, Terry English, Dick Kitchens, and Larry Tyler. Cone Mill Retirees are asked to sit together. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Morningside Baptist Church, 112 Bates Ave., Union, SC 29379 or to Rehoboth United Methodist Church Piano Fund, 6911 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
