November 26, 2017 Mr. Herbert Eugene "Herbie" Smith, age 69, husband of Penny Whiting Smith of 407 Richard St., Union, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at his home. Mr. Smith was born in Union, June 13, 1948, a son of the late Henry Olin Smith and Doris Parks Smith. He was a 1967 graduate of Union High School and attended Spartanburg Technical College. Mr. Smith retired from Honeywell in Duncan in the Quality Control department. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church but grew up in West Side Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Brotherhood Director. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Emily S. Russell and husband Patrick and Carrie S. Smith and husband Kevin all of Union; five grandchildren, Madyson Parks Russell, Mason Patrick Russell, Parker Bruce Russell, Garrison Chase Smith and Grayson Cameron Smith; four special aunts, Mary Parks, Grace Barker, Mary Lee Parks and Ruth Parks, his special pet Yorkie-poo, Ruby and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was predeceased by a brother, Bruce Wayne Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tommy Vaughn, Rev. Shawn Ingle and Mr. Gary Nesmith. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Richie Brown, Brandon Allison, Scotty Burris, Cyle Coker, Trad Robinson, Danny Bright, Daniel Bright and Brett Loftis.
