August 14, 2015 Mr. Horace Vernon "Demo" Morris, age 81, formerly of 110 Fant St., Monarch Community, joined our Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at National Health Care Greenville. Mr. Morris was born in Union, SC on May 15, 1934, a son of the late James Monroe Morris and Myrtle Johns Morris. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Monarch. Mr. Morris protected the residents of Union County for a total of 12 years, serving with the Monarch Fire Department and also the City of Union Fire Department. He was a baseball coach for Little League and Pony League with the Elks Club Team and had played softball with Monarch and Bethel United Methodist Church. Mr. Morris had been a member of the SC National Guard for 11 years. He was divorced, but his previous wife, Dorothy Harris Morris, continued to participate in the capacity of caregiver throughout his life alongside his daughter, Charlotte Ann Morris. Surviving are a daughter, Charlotte Ann Morris of Union; a stepson, Randy Mel Howell of Union; two sisters, Ferol Kelly of Clinton and Lucille Putnam of Union; two brothers, Raymond Morris of Monarch and James "Skillet" Morris of Union. Graveside services with Firemen Honors will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Ken Bogan. Visitation will be held after the service. Memorials may be made to the Union County Firemen's Association, 825 Lovers Lane Road, Union, SC 29379. The family is at their respective homes.
