Mr. Howard Hope Candler, age 91, formerly of Meansville Rd., Union, widow of Frances Howell Candler passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Mary Black Hospital.

Mr. Candler was born in Lockhart, August 7, 1932, a son of the late Julius and Winnie Davis Candler. He graduated as salutatorian from Lockhart High School and attended Clemson University. Mr. Candler retired from the US Postal Service having worked in Spartanburg and was a veteran of the US Army. A member of Fairforest Baptist Church, he had been a member of the choir and served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Candler also supported and served with Carpenters of Christ.

Surviving are a daughter, Janet C. Bradburn of Boiling Springs, George Candler of Spartanburg, Joel Candler and wife Perette of Union and Rev. Terry Candler and wife Denise of Moore; a sister, Judy Bobo; and two brothers, Vester "Bud" Candler and Denver Candler. He is also survived by grandchildren, Becky Worthy and husband Jason, David Candler and wife Marla, Zachary Candler and wife Tressa, Trey Palmer, Nikki Estes and husband Tucker, Chastity Crawford and husband Bubba, Sydney Candler, Sophey Candler and Simon Candler; and great grandchildren, Ryley, Kara, Presley, Cruz, Elijah, Abigail, Sophia, Liam and Ezran. Mr. Candler was predeceased by a grandson, Joshua Candler and a brother, Cecil Candler.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Mark Truitt and Rev. Curt Bradford. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Tuesday at the church prior to the services.

Active pallbearers will be David Candler, Zachary Candler, Trey Palmer, Bubba Crawford, Simon Candler, Jason Worthy, Tucker Estes and Ronnie Huggins.

Members of his Sunday School class at Fairforest Baptist Church are asked to serve as the honorary escort.

The family will be at the home of his son, Joel and Perette Candler, 149 Bonham Station Rd., Union.
