June 3, 2016 Mr. Hugh F. Gregory, age 82, husband of June Griffith Gregory of 4186 Jonesville Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016 at his home. Mr. Gregory was born in Lockhart, June 3, 1934, a son of the late R.N. and Louise Plexico Gregory. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and retired from Milliken and Co. Lockhart Mill after 50 years of service. Mr. Gregory was the last employee of Lockhart Mill and worked until the mill was torn down. After he retired, he went to work for the Town of Lockhart where he was over the Water, Sewer and Grass cutting for the town. Through an anonymous source, a gift was made for the purpose of building a playground for the children of Lockhart, where Mr. Gregory served as overseer and he also built a train for the park. He was an avid woodworker and loved to build things; he could make something out of nothing. Mr. Gregory was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Lockhart where he served two terms as Deacon and had achieved 30 year perfect attendance in Sunday School. He served 45 years with the Lockhart Fire Dept. where he served as Chief and was a member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Gregory also served on the Board for Hope Hospital. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Richard Gregory and wife Vickie of Lockhart; two sisters, Frances Young and husband Jerry of Greenwood and Laura Carter and husband George of Spartanburg; a brother, Bobby Gregory and wife Barbara of Boiling Springs; a grandson, Richie Gregory of Spartanburg; five great-grandchildren, Darrell, Alexis, Nevaeh, Austin and Macie; one great-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Gregory was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Reardon and Cora Jenkins, one brother, Ralph Gregory and a grandson, Robbie Gregory. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Lockhart conducted by Rev. Delos Blanton and Chaplain Sammy Baine. Burial will be at Lockhart Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be David Jenkins, Keith Reardon, Danny Young, Tony Young, Brian Gregory and Tim Carter. Members of the S.C. Firemen's Association will serve as the honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lockhart, Building Fund P.O.
