Irene Melton Greer Union, Sc

Mrs. Irene Melton Greer, age 96 of 1530 Santuck Carlisle Hwy, Union, widow of Ned Greer, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Mrs. Greer was born in Chesterfield Co., September 4, 1918, a daughter of the late John Henry Melton and Celia Brigman Melton. She was retired from United Merchants, Union Mill and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Mrs. Greer was first married to the late George O. Brown. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Edmonds and husband James, and Iris Whisnant and husband Bruce all of Union; six grandchildren, Steve Horne, Tony Horne and wife Jenni B., Clay Whisnant, Brice Whisnant all of Union, Anne Marshall and husband Steven of Lancaster and Jim Brown and wife Sheryl of Colorado; five great-grandchildren, Jeremy Gore, Courtney Allen and husband Tony, Rowan Whisnant all of Union, Mackenzie Marshall and Seth Marshall both of Lancaster; a great-great-grandson, Leo Allen of Union; three step-daughter, Sandra Cain, Joyce Smith and Frances Brown all of Union, a number of step-grand and step-great-grandchildren; three nieces, Sue Reeves, Linda Melton, and Betty Ann Devilinger. Mrs. Greer was predeceased by a son, Oliver Brown, two brothers, John Franklin Melton and Bernice E. Melton, and a sister-in-law, Edith "Irma" Melton. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, November 7, 2014 at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ross Wilson and Rev. Guy Langston. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Tony Horne, Steve Horne, Clay Whisnant, Brice Whisnant, Steven Marshall, Randy George and Steve Willard. Visitation will be held from 6:30 until 8:00PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Eliada Homes, Inc., P.O.
